Sense of Agency
Human agency in shared autonomy and intelligent assistance.
Sense of agency describes the feeling that "I am the one causing and controlling this action." In intelligent tools and shared autonomy systems, this feeling becomes especially important because the system may infer the user's goal, blend human and robot control, or complete part of the task autonomously.
My work uses sense of agency as a lens for studying human-tool collaboration: how assistance can reduce human effort while still keeping users informed, involved, and able to correct the system when needed. This topic connects intent inference, authority allocation, legible robot behavior, and human-in-the-loop learning.
