Research Vision

The relationship between humans and tools has evolved as tools become more intelligent: from objects that are directly used, to machines that amplify physical capability, and further to robots and AI systems that can sense context, infer intent, make decisions, and act with partial autonomy. Along this progression, tool use gradually becomes interaction: people no longer only operate tools, but also negotiate control, trust, and responsibility with intelligent systems that actively participate in the task.

This growing tool intelligence makes human agency, transparency, and collaboration central research problems. In this context, my work studies how machines can understand human intent, how their internal beliefs and assistance can be communicated back to users, and how shared autonomy and human-in-the-loop learning can support safe, natural human-tool collaboration.
